CLINICAL TRIALS FOR DEMENTIA

The Hope Network is a resource for monitoring clinical trials conducted throughout the world for new medications and therapies to treat dementia.  We bring hope to our residents and members of the Hope Network by tracking and communicating the cutting edge breaking developments related to medications and therapies.  Our residents and members of the Hope Network will be informed of clinical trials available in the Atlanta, Georgia area and encouraged to participate.  Clinical trials offer opportunities for individuals to benefit from new medications long before they are made available to the general public.

The World Health Organization estimates there are approximately 30 million individuals worldwide afflicted with dementia and the numbers are growing dramatically.  There is a virtual “tsunami” of dementia on the horizon. The medical and caregiving cost associated with dementia throughout the world is estimated to be 604 billion dollars for 2010.

The governments of the United States and most other countries recognize the impending crisis of dementia and realize the huge financial burden that will result on the world healthcare system.  All forms of dementia currently cost the United States healthcare system 243 billion dollars per year and this cost is increasing dramatically as more and more individuals are afflicted with dementia.  The enormous future cost to the world healthcare system for dementia care is resulting in huge amounts of research funds being directed into the development of medications and therapies which could provide for memory maintenance and, at some point, a cure.  As this research evolves, more and more clinical trials will be conducted.  Clinical Trials provide the true hope for maintaining memory and cognitive function while searching for a cure.
