THE HOPE CONCEPT - THE DIFFERENCEMost dementia care today is provided in a wing or section of an assisted living facility with no regard to the fact that residents at differing levels of cognitive ability and memory loss have different needs and requirements for therapies and type of activities. The Hope Memory Care Center is an assisted living facility dedicated solely to caring for individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. The Hope Concept embraces the separation of residents based on their stage of memory loss and loss of cognitive function. A review of the Villages at Hope demonstrates how this separation is accomplished in a warm, comfortable environment for each resident. A careful review of the section of this website called “Understanding Alzheimer’s disease and Other Dementias” will reinforce the fact that appropriate care for residents with differing levels of cognitive ability and memory loss cannot be provided in a confined area in one section of a building. A resident at Stage 4 has different needs compared to residents at Stage 6 or 7. Central to the “Hope Concept” is to make significant efforts to slow the rate of memory loss and loss of cognitive function of our residents. If the rate of loss of memory and cognitive function is slowed, the resident lives a higher quality of life and, very importantly, when a cure is discovered, more memory and cognitive function has been preserved allowing the resident to live the best quality life. Our efforts to slow memory loss and loss of cognitive function include an aggressive program to monitor new developments in cutting edge therapies and medications. The latest and the best will be made available to our residents. All Alzheimer’s disease and dementia drug trials will be monitored carefully and when possible, our residents will be encouraged to participate in clinical trials for new medications and therapies.
